The mebusas mebusas vol 1 blood brothers - Mebusas* - Mebusas Vol 1 - Blood Brothers - Discogs

Reissued for the first time, Mebusas' Blood Brothers arrives via the Academy LPs imprint, revealing one of Nigeria's overlooked Afro-funk/rock gems from the 1970s. The band introduce the instrumentation and arrangement tactics of US funk records, throwing in some great horns and a few scorching fuzz-rock guitar lead parts - there's even a dalliance with reggae on 'Grooving Out On Life'. The band's excellent 'Son Of Mr Bull Dog' (the opening cut on the album) is Included on the new Soundway release, Afro Baby: The Evolution Of The Afro-Sound In Nigeria 1970-79, so it seems as if the stars have aligned and some sort of renaissance for the band is starting to come together. "The Mebusas lone LP 'Blood Brothers' combines elements of American soul and funk, psychedelic rock, latin/carribean rhythms and traditional African music. Innovative arrangements, deep rhythms and top-notch playing make this 1973 album a true classic. This is the first ever reissue of this landmark album."
